Mutarazi Falls
A ribbon of water falling more than 700 metres into the Honde Valley, now with a skywalk on the cliff.
Mutarazi Falls falls about 762 metres in two tiers from the edge of Nyanga National Park into the tea-growing Honde Valley. It is the highest waterfall in Zimbabwe and is often listed as the second-highest in Africa.
Why visit Mutarazi Falls
A skywalk and zip line now hang off the escarpment beside the falls. Elsewhere in the Eastern Highlands are trout streams, pine forest and Mount Nyangani, Zimbabwe's highest peak.
Best time to visit Mutarazi Falls
The falls are fullest from December to April. The dry winter months bring cool, clear days and a thinner thread of water.
How to get to Mutarazi Falls
Drive from Harare to Nyanga (about three and a half hours) and onward to the Mutarazi falls car park inside the park.
What to see
Mutarazi Falls, in Nyanga National Park, drops about 762 metres in two main tiers off the edge of the Eastern Highlands, making it the highest waterfall in Zimbabwe and one of the highest in Africa. A short walk from the car park leads to viewpoints over the falls and the Honde Valley far below. A skywalk and zip line along the escarpment add a more adventurous way to see it.
Practical information
Nyanga is about three and a half hours from Harare. The falls are best in the rainy season, November to March, and can be thin in the dry months. Mist often covers the escarpment, so mornings can be better. Combine the visit with Mount Nyangani, the Pungwe Falls and the trout streams of Nyanga. Park fees are charged at the gate.
