What to see

Karera Falls is a series of falls on a tributary of the Ruvubu River, in the south of Burundi. Paths lead to the main cascade, about 80 metres high in several steps, and to smaller falls nearby. The source of the Nile monument at Rutovu, a small pyramid, is a short drive away, and the Nyakazu Fault, a great escarpment known locally as "the German gorge", is close by.

Practical information

Karera is about three hours by road from Bujumbura. Facilities are very limited, so bring water and food. The falls are fullest in the rainy seasons.
